A warm Japanese inspired family home in Switzerland.

Inspired by the colours of Lake Zurich in Switzerland, the interiors of this Japandi-style home are proof that great decor is all about striking the right balance.

An entrepreneur and his wife, an American scientist, asked London-based, German-Iranian designer Miriam Frowein to envision the interior spaces of this three-storey house designed by Swiss architecture studio Arndt Geiger Herrmann AG, where they now live permanently.

It took three years to craft the decor - down to the smallest detail - of the impressive 450 square metre Japandi-style home located in a small village southeast of Zurich.

Occupying a dreamy plot that offers 280-degree views of both Lake Zurich and the majestic mountains, the contemporary home with open spaces and floor-to-ceiling windows became a playground for Miriam Frowein Interiors. Frowein strove to make the interiors warm and reflect a Zen atmosphere to remind the owners of their many travels in Asia.

Against a palette of oak, linen, concrete and Japanese tiles, the textured effect of our solid brass half-moon hammered pulls (this cabinet handle, and this door pull) support the design scheme perfectly.

The chosen finish, our signature Mid Antique Brass Waxed (MABW), with its characterfully aged look, is the perfect choice that complements the natural irregularity in the surrounding materials.

My clients had bought an old cottage on a beautiful plot of land on Lake Zurich with its own pontoon, a house for boats and wanted a new construction: a house where the inside and outside would be connected. The studio had a chance to collaborate very closely with the architect. We were very involved from the beginning in the design of parts and selection of materials. This collaboration between the architect and ourselves as interior designer was extremely important and beneficial for the client.
