Maurice

Inspired by the use of arches in architecture, the Maurice range takes its name from the contemporary addition to the Gothic cathedral of Angers, La Galilée de Saint-Maurice d’Angers, where architect Kengo Kuma played with the shape of the arch to create the stunning multi-faceted entrance.

For centuries, architects have graced their projects with oval arch details, often integrating them into the facades of buildings to provide soft and calming entrance. Another fascinating use of an arch detail is the Ouse Valley viaduct in Sussex, England. The 37 semi-circular brick-clad arches, which are perfectly aligned, provide a graceful elegance to what could have been an overpowering structure. With the Maurice range, we are hoping to bring some of the graceful and versatile influences of oval shapes into the finer details of interiors.
